QUESTION OF THE DAY

These are questions asked by our viewers to the experts on the panel of Pediatric Oncall.

Mangesh Damodar Khandave: A 10 days old abandoned neonate was admitted to an orphanage. Orphanage people are doing HIV ELISA for all admitted babies to them. They are not doing DNA PCR FOR CHILDREN BELOW 18 MONTH as they can not afford it. The above said neonate turned to be HIV ELISA positive. The pediatrician of the orphanage started him on Zidovudine (i.e. prophylaxis) My question is whether it correct to start baby on Zidovudine prophylaxis when mother status is not known?

Nitin Mistry: I would like to know about the role of levamisole as an immunomodulator. What would be to dose of it as an immodulator? Any specific indications for its use?
