My daughter had surgery to repair her ureters due to reflux on Jan. 05, 2005. Should she still be experiencing painful urination and clotting? The pain is in her vagina when she voids, not her incision. She hasn't had a fever or any other symptoms of an infection.

My 6 year old son has recently been diagnosed with grade IV VUR. He has had severe constipation since birth, and upon doing the Urodynamics study it was discovered that there are problems with some nerves. It was also discovered that his angle reflexes are absent. He will be having more tests but I am trying to find out more info. If you can please help.

My son will be 7 yrs old next week. He has bilateral hydronephrosis caused by secondary grade 4 VUR. He has hyperactive bladder in which his is too small, rigid and it is at extremely high pressure when he voids. He is on Ditropan and Septra. My question is how high is the success rate for treating this medically? He will need to have bladder augmentation if medication is not successful.

MY 10 YEAR OLD SON WAS RECENTLY DIAGNOSED WITH PUV. HE HAS REFLUX TO BOTH KIDNEYS AND HIS BLADDER HAS BEEN DAMAGED (BOTH MUSCLES AND NERVES). AFTER THE OPERATION HE WAS RETESTED AND NO REAL IMPROVEMENT WAS FOUND. HE IS NOW GOING TO SELF CATHER. 4X DAILY TO KEEP INFECTION FROM OCCURRING. I'VE BEEN TOLD ABOUT AN INTERMSTEM PRODUCT WHICH CAN BE PLACED IN THE BLADDER TO HELP WITH VOIDING. IS THERE ANY ONE OUT THERE WHO KNOWS IF THIS HAS BEEN USED IN CHILDREN AND WHAT THE OUTCOMES HAVE BEEN? ALSO, ANY SUGGESTIONS ON CUTTING EDGE/NEW DEVELOPMENTS AND THE DOCTORS NAMES WHO ARE INVOLVED WOULD BE APPRECIATED. THANK YOU.

I read your information on VUR which was very helpful. I have a follow up question: You say that "repeated urinary tract infections along with VUR can damage the kidneys". How many infections should a parent worry about? (My son is 2 years old and has had one bladder infection and my pediatrician suggests testing for VUR). I am worried that the test is rather invasive. What frequency of infections would lead you to recommend a test? (My son is also not circumcised).

My 3 yr old daughter has VUR? It was diagnosed very early and she has been on antibiotics. For the past two years all was well then she got two uti's one after the other. It was so bad it was to the point the she couldn't even urinate. I asked the doctor if it was possible that she built a resistance to the bacterium and was told it was very possible. I want to know if surgery would be better for her and if so what is the surgical procedure like? I would appreciate any info you could forward. Thanks.

My daughter was diagnosed with vesicoureteral reflux, Grade I, at 7 weeks of age. We just went back for our second round of testing, six months later. The tests performed were VCUG, sonogram, and Mag 3. The first time she was diagnosed all we had was a VCUG and sono, so the Mag 3 was a big surprise. I won't know the specialists official diagnosis for two weeks as she was involved in a major car accident and is still recovering. The doctor who performed the VCUG did tell me that the reflux is gone from her right ureter, however has been up-graded to a Grade II on the left side, with inflammation of the kidney, however did not specify which kidney she was talking about. I tried to ask for clarification, but (my personal opinion is she had no clue what I was asking.) I had been left under the impression that as long as she took her medicine every night and there have not been any outbreak UTI's, that she should stay the same. Is it wrong of me to think that the next time we go in six months, that she will be upgraded to a Grade III or even IV? This stress is very hard on me. I am married, however I have a neanderthal of a husband who believes the family is my sole responsibility. Just as a side note, I am diagnosed as bi-polar type II and do not handle stress very well. I've spent the past two days crying my eyes out, worried and with no answers. Any information I could receive would be very helpful. Thank you for your time.
